Science Guide Volunteers at The Imaginarium
The Imaginarium's Science Guide Volunteer Program offers
the opportunity for teens to learn more about science and share
that knowledge with our visitors though our public programs.
If you are 18 or older and would like to become an Adult Volunteer,

to discuss your interests!
What is Science Guide Volunteer?
A Science Guide Volunteer is between the ages of 13-17, is interested
in science, enjoys working with the public, and is interested in
doing something positive for themselves and their community.

What do Science Guide Volunteers do?
Science Guide Volunteers:
- Interact with adults & children of all ages
- Greet visitors & help them explore & understand exhibits
- Perform fun and informative science demonstrations
- Handle and show reptiles and marine animals
- Host science-themed birthday parties
- Assist with science camps
- Participate in fairs, parades & community events
What are some of the benefits?
As a Science Guide Volunteer you will:
- Learn interesting and cutting edge science from professional
scientists and educators
- Develop public speaking skills
- Acquire work experience
- Gain animal handling skills
- Meet other teens from all over the Anchorage area
- Receive a discount in The Science Store and earn other Incentive
Rewards like t-shirts, gift certificates, and guest passes.
You will also have the opportunity to:
- Earn school and community service credit
- Attend special and seasonal trainings
- Participate in volunteer recognition events
- Apply to The Imaginarium/UAA U-DOC program
- Earn scholarships and awards!
- Become a Lead Science Guide
What is the time requirement for a Science Guide Volunteer?
We ask that you commit to volunteering a certain number of shifts
per month, depending on the season:
What do I have to do to become a Science Guide Volunteer?
The next opportunity to get involved will be in September
for the 2008-09 school year. Here's how to get started:
- Complete and submit a Science
Guide Volunteer Application.
- Attend a mandatory Parent/Child
Info Night
After attending the Parent/Child Info Night, you're ready to sign
up for the 3 REQUIRED
trainings which will teach you what you need to know befor scheduling
your first day as a Science Guide Volunteer:
• Public Presentations
• Live Animal Demos
• Space Demos

Are there opportunities for further trainings?
Yes. Every month you will have the option of signing up for one
of the following trainings:
• Electricity Demonstration
• Birthday Parties
• Super Cold Demonstration– dry ice and liquid nitrogen
• Egg Science Demonstration (seasonal)
• Living in Space Demonstration
