About
The Imaginarium
Mission
To stimulate interest in and understanding of science and technology
through exciting, inquiry-based, hands-on, minds-on exhibits and
programs.
Vision
The Imaginarium will assume a leadership role to improve science literacy
across all generations and will work to ensure that science literacy
is a cornerstone of both personal and state success in the 21st
century.
Like the ability to read a hundred years ago,
the ability to understand an increasingly complex technological
society will no longer be the purview of a privileged few, but a
basic requirement for meeting the challenges and opportunities that
lie ahead. Across every field of endeavor, effective citizenship
in the future will demand a familiarity with technologies and science-driven
social issues that can only be dimly perceived today. The Imaginarium
will be at the heart of a community-wide effort to prepare Alaskans
for that future.
The Imaginarium will continue to be the entertaining, welcoming, family-oriented
institution that has been embraced by our community since its founding.
By providing engaging exhibits and programs, excellent customer service,
a first-class facility, and a fun and exciting atmosphere, we will
serve a broad audience of residents and visitors to Alaska.
The Imaginarium will also act as the catalyst for working with institutions
of similar vision to effectively demonstrate, in multi-faceted,
dynamic learning situations, the unique and valuable correlation
between art, science, humanities and technology.
All these activities will take place within a fiscally responsible
framework and will be based on community input. A board of directors,
professional staff, and volunteer corps, which reflect the diversity
of Alaskans, will exercise the highest standards of stewardship
and public service. We will create a great place to work, with a
fairly compensated, dedicated, professional staff. We will leverage
resources by attracting and motivating a strong volunteer corps
and aggressively pursuing partnerships with organizations that share
our vision.
Through these efforts, we will affirm The Imaginarium’s status
as a first-class institution, helping to enable the citizens of
Alaska to meet the challenges of the next century.
