Brain Scan
This popular hands-on workshop includes dissection of a sheep's
brain and learning how the brain controls body systems. After participating
in this workshop students will be better able to:
- Describe the anatomy of the brain, specifically the brain of
sheep and humans and compare the similarities and differences
between the two;
- Connect brain function with specific parts of the brain; and
- Appreciate the role of dissection in science as a way of exploring
anatomy.

Poke a Squid
It's squishy, it's slimy, it's squid! Students act as marine biologists,
learning how to dissect and analyze. After participating in this
workshop students will be better able to:

Get face-to-face with some of our reptile friends. Students will
have fun exploring the world of reptiles. After participating in
this workshop students will be better able to:
- Observe specimen to determine characteristics and classify specimen
based on these characteristics;
- Identify basic reptile characteristics, along with their adaptive
purposes; and
- Appreciate environmental influence on species’ characteristics

- Identify the parts and processes of the digestive system;
- Recognize how every “part” of the digestive system
has a specific purpose; and
- Appreciate models as providing insight into scientific study

Bare Bones
Explore bone functions, characteristics, and shapes in everything
from teeth to toes. After participating in this workshop students
will be better able to:
- Identify what bones are made of;
- Understand the form and function of a bone by constructing a
bone model;
- Understand why we need bones;
- Discover what makes bones strong enough to support our body;
- Group various animal skulls by diet based on skull investigation;
- Observe and define characteristics of vertebrates using skeleton
mounts; and
- Become familiar with some animal adaptations through skeleton
investigation

Cold Hard Facts
Explore the unique properties of dry ice through interactive, hands-on
experiments. Discover the wonders of liquid nitrogen. After participating
in this workshop students will be better able to:
- List the 3 common phases of matter;
- Understand that a change from one phase to another involves
changes in the amount of energy within the matter; and
- Understand that the molecular model of matter predicts that
as temperature rises, molecules move further apart, and that as
temperature falls, molecules move closer together

- Better understand what lightning is and how it works

Earth Science
Orbital Action
Take a planetary journey in the planetarium, build a planetary model
and learn about the size, scale and orbital paths of planets. After
participating in this workshop students will be better able to:
- Become familiar with the size of each planet and the moon compared
to Earth and the Sun;
- Understand that gravity attracts one object to another and
is dependant on distance and size; and
- Demonstrate that planets closer to the sun move faster around
the sun than those further away

Rocks Rock
Student geologists follow rocks on their journey from formation
to disintegration and back again. After participating in this workshop
students will be better able to:
- Describe the rock cycle in detail;
- Define mineral and rock and understand the differences between
them;
- Understand how scientists identify and classify rocks and minerals;
- Describe how weathering affects the transition of rocks, minerals,
and crystals into soil; and
- Practice data collection and the recording of observations during
experimentation
